task #10

As far as the new website goes, I think it's groovy! Thanks to the team who worked so hard on it. I found it difficult to remember things are at the bottom, but it will just take some getting used to. I found everything I looked for fairly quickly and with little effort. Our patrons will like being able to quickly navigate to the perfect page they want!

Task #9 Universal Class

I registered and really looked at a few classes. I can't fit it in right now,  however it seems there is something in here for everyone. A universal class through the library looks free, while they have prices on them going through the webolution link. If they are free, this is an invaluable benefit for our patrons and staff!

I can see our homeschooling groups really using Universal Classes.

Task #8

This is a great lib guide. I was thrilled to find out about Google translate! I just love this place! I learned a lot about our Spanish lib guide. What a great job the staff did creating this. Thanks. I will use this most at the lower PC when signing up a new patron from the literacy center. ( and I forgot, my score was 7/10 at first, then better after I searched some more 9/10)

task #7 cloud computing

I guess I don't trust 'the cloud'. I still feel like I'll lose it all! I think after watching the videos it could work to my advantage to use one of these methods for file sharing such as pics for the fam. I have shown patrons how to do this, I have just been too scared to try it myself! Now if I can just jump off the cliff of fear........

#6 The Quiz

Wow!! I got them all right!! I am so proud of me. I always combine ways to find info if possible that way when one way turns up very little I have a backup plan. None of the answers surprised me.

Question:

A patron comes in after a job search, needing a great resume, not knowing how to come up with one.

A. Show them how to get on a computer and open word, then leave them to "figure it out".
B. Give them a list of computer classes, explain them, and make them aware of our Book a librarian option.
C. Point them to our databases....Optimal Resume.
D. Help them learn how to use the catalog to find and place holds on books that will help them.
E. Any combo of B, C, or/and D.

E, of course, is the right answer.

extra credit: Google a Day

Well, I need to play with this a lot more to have as much fun as there is to have. This is something I love. Trivia, not good at it, but love to read and learn. It's great reviewing how to search using Google, although it has been the primary search tool I've used for a long time. Google a Day will provide fun EVERY day!!

Task #5 Chiltons

I walk patrons through Chilton all the time! I love it! This is so easy to use if you know exactly what you're looking for. It keeps our paper manuals much cleaner also!! Chilton has information about cars that dates back far enough for the oldest car repair jobs. If it runs, Chilton probably has the repair info on it.  We even use this at home. I just looked up how to replace the alternator on my son's car and now I know I could print it off at home and wah-la, we can fix. This is the best place to go for DIY car repairs.
